Carbon Offset:
To 'carbon offset' is a way of cancelling out the emissions resulting from activities such as a plane flights or car journeys. This is achieved by making investments in projects that aim to cut or offset global greenhouse gas emissions, such as reforestation or renewable energy.
The World Land Trust (www.worldlandtrust.org), a UK-registered charity (no.1001291) with 17 years of experience in protecting habitat and biodiversity throughout the world. We have chosen to partner with them to provide you with an easy-to-use online tool that you can use to calculate the level of carbon offset required for flights and other activities.
The World Land Trusts’ Carbon Balanced programme regenerates natural forest habitat on land that has been biologically degraded through clearance for logging, grazing or agriculture. By applying the World Land Trust’s conservation criteria and measurably sequestering carbon dioxide, critically endangered habitat is being regenerated, increasing the range and survival of endangered species. Whether it is creating elephant corridors in India or connecting cloud forest fragments in Ecuador, their work comes with a list of target species for which they aim to provide ongoing security.
