Drinks: Whether you are buying Soft Drinks, Wines, Beers or Spirits or a combination of all of them there are ways to make a more eco-friendly choice:
Transport: As with foods, think about the transport miles. Wines from Australia, New Zealand or South America will be a less environmentally friendly choice than Europeans Wines, particularly some of the excellent and expanding range of British wines!
Packaging: Glass bottles are the most environmentally friendly option, but cans are cartons are usually easy to recycle. Plastic on the other hand is a little more tricky and will need a little more investigation as most are still not recycleable. Soft drinks are particularly prone to excessive and non-recycleable packaging. although under pressure the industry is improving.
When choosing wine try to choose bottles with real corks - cork production is a very eco-friendly industry where no trees are killed as only small sections of bark are stripped from trees which continue to thrive. This industry also supports a local population in maintaining a habitat in southern Europe which is very important for the survival of rare and increasingly threatened species such as the Barbary deer, Iberian Lynx and Spanish Imperial eagle.

Cultivation or formulation.
-
Beer: Organic beers are becoming increasingly popular and available - particularly from micro-brewers. The average non- organic crop is sprayed more than a dozen times during cultivation with a cocktail of more than a dozen different pesticides.
-
Wines: By choosing organic wines as with all things organic your choices will be responsibile indirectly for lower levels of chemical useage.
-
Juices & cordials: As with wine by buying organic you will be making the more environmentally friendly choice.
