Ryobi ELS52 electric log splitter
If you prepare your own timber or even if you get cut logs delivered, you will probably need to split larger logs down to a more suitable size and this can be back-breaking work. The Ryobi electric log-splitter, with its' powerful 1500W motor mounted on a strong tubular steel frame, can generate up to 4 tons of pressure at the flick of a switch. This is more than enough to handle logs up to 52cm in length and 30cm diameter. Even larger logs can be split from one side then turning the log and splitting again from the opposite side, and by continuing like this you can eventually split logs down to create kindling if required.
The Ryobi ELS 52 electric log splitter is supplied with a 12m/40ft cable, and has large transport wheels and rubber grip handles for easy manoeuvring. It comes with the manufacturers 2 year warranty for domestic use.

A web company that delivers on time plus the best price available.Delivery was also the cheapest, some company's were asking £ 18. 00.Spoke to the technical dept.and received sound advice which has been rewarded with a machine that coped with logs that were all at least 300 mm in diameter and sat on a stool at the machine feeding them in!

Received the splitter yesterday which was within 48hrs of ordering on-line. It is very robust, well engineered and does exactly as it says on the can. I thought I'd just do a quick test and ended up logging 6 or 7 logs in as many minutes - I couldn't stop myself being amazed at the ease with which it sliced through logs - even with knots. It was easy to assemble straight out of the box (slip the wheels on the axles and unravel the (very lengthy) power cord and you're ready to rock and roll. I should mention downsides to keep the review even but these are just picky things and shouldn't detract from the overall quality of the kit: You need to kneel down to operate it which (for the elderly) is a pain in the neck, knees, back etc etc, and: I feel the start button might give up prematurely as it gets a hammering on every stroke you make although I have no proof of this and time will tell. Bottom line? Buy one, you will not be disappointed, rather you will be impressed!

We have a Clearview stove which is our primary space-heating source, and I try to gather all our wood, either from the side of rights of way or in return for small chainsaw jobs for friends. As such, we heat for free - and we get through a lot of logs! I have traditionally split with a splitting maul, but I would have to allocate three days for the ob - one to cut, and two for my back to recover! We also accumulate a pile of 'unsplittables' which the maul bounces off.
I had been umm-ing and ahh-ing about which log splitter to buy for about a year - I had considered petrol and electric models, ranging in price from £200 to £600.
Cut to the Ryobi. I've always respected the brand, owning a large collection of their rechargeable tools (highly recommended!) I read some great reviews and videos on Youtube, plus some not very good ones. I suspect the less favourable reviews are from people who have to have a splitter with a 20 ton rating for splitting 4 foot logs full of knots. Is the household user likely to get logs like these? No.
The Ryobi arrived less than 24 hours after ordering, with a great courier (TNT) phoning before to let me know they were coming and even offering to help me carry it into the garden. It is heavy at 45kgs, but I could lift it alone. Assembly is easy - two pins hold the wheels on. Everyday maintenance involves checking the hydraulic oil level (8mm allen key needed, and not included!) and unscrewing a bleed screw on every use - this is vital, as otherwise the oil seals may fail. I fired it up and was VERY impressed with how quiet the Ryobi is. There is a push button which starts the electric motor, and a sprung lever which operates the hydraulics. This needs two hands for good reason - if your hands are working a control, they are in no danger! I put a very wet Willow log on the splitter, pushed the motor button and pressed the lever. The ram extended, pushed the log into the wedge and it split with a very loud crack. It didn't seem to have to work at all. Letting go of the motor button with the hydraulics lever still down will stop the motor, and the ram with stay in place - if you then release the lever the ram will withdraw. I found that you could release the lever until the ram came back just far enough to put another log in, saving a few seconds on the motor. I could split a 12 inch log into eight beautiful pieces in about a minute - far less than with the maul, and zero effort!
I then tried the gnarliest, most knotted log I could find. The Ryobi only struggled for grip as the ends had not been cut straight - it split the log apart FAR easier than I was expecting. The machine sits on it's end nicely in the workshop, and fits under my workbench perfectly. It comes with loads of cable - about 30 feet I estimate. In conclusion, I HIGHLY recommend his log splitter and am delighted with the purchase - it was from the cheapest supplier I could find, but sales and delivery were faultless.

I am writing to thank you for your excellent service. I called you on Tuesday to discuss what log splitter to buy and I went for the Ryobi. I ordered it on line that afternoon. It arrived on Wednesday lunchtime and was soon set to work.
I was slightly disappointed at first when it seemed to struggle a bit with some recently cut ash but soon appreciated what a fantastic machine it is. It even split the old logs which splitting axes bounce off. Split more in 2 hours than I could ever imagine.
A thank you also needs to go to your delivery company. The driver rang me about 10 minutes before getting there. Also that as my wife was the "recipient" he wanted to make sure that she wouldn't have to lift or move it.
All round thank you.
